WhatsApp Web to Soon Support Voice and Video Calls: Beta Test Begins

WhatsApp Web voice and video calling

WhatsApp Web is finally getting closer to supporting voice and video calls. According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is testing this new feature in the latest beta version of its web client. Until now, users could only make calls using the WhatsApp mobile app or the desktop app for Windows and Mac.

With this upcoming update, new call buttons will appear on the WhatsApp browser. These include the phone and video camera icons, like on the mobile app. Users will likely be asked to give permission for their mic and webcam the first time they try to make a call. Once allowed, the browser should remember these settings unless cookies or site data are cleared.

The update brings WhatsApp Web closer to platforms like Zoom and Microsoft Teams, allowing users to make calls straight from Chrome, Edge, Safari, or any other browser—no installation needed. A new dropdown call menu is also being tested, offering a more straightforward way to start voice or video calls within individual or group chats.

Although WhatsApp has not confirmed the official release date, the feature is expected to be widely available in the coming weeks.

WhatsApp recently introduced an Advanced Chat Privacy feature to prevent users from exporting chats or downloading media without permission, adding more privacy to conversations.

This new calling option will bring more convenience for users who prefer using WhatsApp in a browser.
